was not. Of course, today, there is still argument surrounding what is proper and what is sinful. Bertrand Russell (1936) addresses this question in an essay that concludes with the
following observation: " Most moralists have been so obsessed by sex that they have laid much too little emphasis on other more socially useful kinds of ethically commendable conduct. "
Sometimes people fail to talk about phenomena that is happening. Todays up and coming generation seems to be different in that they are not afraid to speak about sex
and love and whatever is on their minds. Still, ideas of friendship, family and love are constantly changing. New ideas about family emerge. There are single parent families, gay families,
blended families and so forth. The choices provide a new sense that the traditional nuclear family is outdated. Yet, familial love is one thing and erotic love another. Erich
Fromm (1956) writes: "In erotic love, two people who were separate become one. In motherly love, two people who were one become separate" (p.48). An interest point is made
as Fromm investigates erotic love. Today, many equate eroticism with romanticism or the idea that two people can come together, live together forever, and merge to almost become inseparable. Of
course, most people know that marriage is not quite as profound and half end in divorce. Still, the concept is there. There has been attention to tantric sex where the
merging of two beings--chakras aligned--heightens the attachment and the sexual experience. It is important to note that Fromm references the alliance of mother and child prior to birth as well.
