contend that the film is an adaptation of Fishers autobiography, it is really only loosely based on it. In fact, Kennedy (2002) contends that the movie is just a movie
about Antwone Fishers life and his nothing to do with the book. The film actually does take on Antwones life from a different perspective than his own, but one gets
glimpses of Fishers persona. That said, the fact that one is making a film or writing a memoir about Antwone Fisher is something of a mystery. This security guard turned
screen writer would go on to create a wonderful book (2002). Yet, the fact that the film was made at all attests to the fact that people are interested
in this man named Antwone Fisher who was born at the tail end of the 1950s and raised during a pivotal time in black history. The civil rights era is
generally considered to go from 1958 through 1968, but the power of the movement actually began in the early to mid-1950s. Hence, Antwone Fisher was born at a tumultuous
time. He would be raised to see that the black man was not properly treated. At the time, black people began to protest against a society that had not
provided them with the same privileges as their white counterparts. While Antwone was young during the 1960s, it made an impression on him. While some race relation issues
did come up during the first half of the twentieth century, by the time the 1950s would roll around, while there was still a significant racial divide, and the problem
in respect to race relations was recognized. It was no longer in the closet and things would heat up in the 1950s. Brown v. Board of Education would come about,
