to raise taxes, people complain. Presently, a controversy exist in Marion County, Florida. There are certainly repairs needed on its roads and a variety of things have been proposed, inclusive
of creating a toll road, raising gasoline taxes and raising sales taxes. All decisions to raise money will be controversial because in all cases, these are taxes that cannot be
avoided. People need gas for their vehicles and they must pay taxes if they purchase things. The county then will impose a tax so that the roads can be repaired.
It is in some way difficult to understand the controversy. The people know that money is needed, so why do they not just give in to whatever method of
raising money is decided? The point is that each citizen has an opinion on what the best way to raise money is, even if they all agree that the roads
need improvement. It is generally agreed that the roads are in need of repair in Marion County, but there is controversy in terms of how the money should be raised.
On September 22, 2005, it was reported that a study suggests that money is definitely needed to fix the roads of Marion County ("Floridians for Better Transportation," 2006). In fact,
it has been suggested that the local officials should raise the gas taxes as well as impact fees to contribute to funding for the countys need for transportation improvements ("Floridians
