their families, start their weekends, and enjoy some time off. The people stood shoulder to shoulder in the crowed by rarely looked at each other. I stood there,
my back aching and my feet swelling, eight months pregnant and just praying the train would come 2 minutes early. When the subway car pulled up, everyone began to
push. I didnt even feel the platform beneath my feet and I wasnt sure if I was walking or just being pushed into the car. I was plastered
against the back of the car and managed to wedge myself, standing, into the corner. I was so exhausted that for the next 3 stops, I dozed in and
out, sure I would fall asleep standing up and miss my stop. As the car began to clear, I saw an elderly gentlemen facing me, also looking tired and
weary from the trip and the crowd. He had a kind face and smiled at me, still propped in the corner. Suddenly, he took the cane from his
side and began to stand up. I thought the next stop must be his, but he took a step closer to me and said: "You need to sit."
I smiled and nodded, but I wasnt sure if he was offering me his seat or just making a general observation. "Come on," he said. "Youre standing
for two. Have a seat and rest those weary bones." I looked at him again, cane in hand, proudly standing beside the now free seat. "Are
you sure," I asked. "Of course. Sit, my dear." And so I sat. I looked around and there were so many other people who could
