to truly decipher. Even people who knew a famous individual intimately while they were alive would likely have a very different take, and opinion, than someone else who knew the
same individual very closely. Such realities are made even more complex when the individual in history is seen as good but also as bad for whatever reason. And, this is
the case with simple individuals who managed to go down in history for one reason or another. When it comes to an incredibly famous, and politically impacting, individual the realities
and historiographies become even more numerous, if not cloudy. Napoleon Bonaparte was such an individual. A complex, volatile and intriguing individual there
are many ways to look at this man and what he did in his time. That is why there are many historiographies concerning his life and contributions or weaknesses. Or,
as one author notes, "More than a quarter of million books have already been written about Napoleon, yet authors and historians continue to interpret his life-often in contradictory terms" (The
