more recently have become well aquatinted with the phenomenon when terrorists took down the buildings in New York City and elsewhere, creating an atmosphere of fear and heartache in America. Of course, that is the intent of terrorism. Terrorism is designed to create fear so that the perpetrators can accomplish their goals. They want to render a world that is seemingly unsafe, until they achieve their desires. What do the terrorists want? Throughout history, terrorists have wanted different things. The theater in which terrorism takes place, or the specific group designation, is not important. What is important are the tactics used. Terrorism is a method of trying to acquire something. The terrorists often do not get what they want, but they certainly do send a message to the larger society. For example, when a bomb goes off in Israel, it is rather apparent that a Palestinian group is responsible, and often they do admit to creating the action. In fact, accepting responsibility for something is part of the reason they commit a crime. Once the world knows that a certain group created havoc, the world understands the message. In the case of the Israel-Palestine debate, there is a fight over territory. When either the PLO or an Israeli group bombs the other, they are continuing to wage war. Of course, the tactics are equated with terrorism rather than traditional war. Terrorism is nothing new. It is something hat has existed throughout history, and some compare it to war. There is always discussion about whether or not terrorism is justifiable. After all, nations talk about "just wars."
