someone to become a hero and the steps they progress through in their journey. As interesting as Campbells life was, his theories and experiences are even more interesting when
applied to those in our own lives. Just as Campbell observed in regard to teaching his female students at Sarah Lawrence, material is always more interesting when it is
applied to your own live, when it relates to you personally (Campbell and Cousineau 50). The purpose of this paper is to give a brief overview of Campbell and
his ideologies and then to apply those ideologies to someone in my own life. That someone is a husband and a father but he is also a member of
a Special Weapons and Tactics team and is on his own life journey as a hero. Born on March 26, 1904 in New
York City to Charles and Josephine Campbell, Joseph Campbell lived during one of the more interesting times of American history (Campbell and Cousineau 2). His birth fell on a
transitory time between our earlier nineteenth century history and the modernization that came with the twentieth century. Campbell credits his first interest in mythology to his exposure to remnants
of that earlier history, his exposure to Buffalo Bills Wild West Show and to the Native American displays at the Museum of Natural History (Campbell and Cousineau 2).
Campbells early exposure to Native American culture lit Campbells passion first for delving deeper into Native American history and then for delving into
