will criticize their wives driving as women are stereotyped as being bad drivers. While that is not a fact, and is just a poor image, some stereotypes have truth to them. For example, very old or very young drivers pose problems but for different reasons. No matter what their gender or age, people are sensitive about their driving ability. However, when a person has accident after accident, that is a clue that he or she is a bad driver. Of course, the accidents do not happen by themselves. Quite possibly, the driver does something to cause these accidents. While that is one characteristic, what are other traits of bad drivers? A student writing on this subject might want to ask, what makes a good, bad or average driver? In general, good drivers obey the rules. They stop at stop signs, for example, and after a complete stop, they slowly enter the intersection to look once again, and then they proceed. Good drivers are especially alert. They will not get behind the wheel of a car while under the influence of alcohol, or if they are taking prescription medication that might make them drowsy. They do not drive on very little sleep either. While in traffic, they continue to look around. They might change the station on the radio while stopped at a red light, but rarely fiddle with it while concentrating on their driving. They are equally cautious with cell phones, and reading the newspaper, for example. Good drivers do not let distractions get the best of them. Also, good drivers maintain their cars to avoid accidents. They make sure they have enough air in their tires and that their oil is changed every three months or so to assure that the vehicle is in good operating condition. Good drivers ...
