life. The following paper examines such a frightening experience related to the absence of a father. A Frightening Experience Not knowing ones father, or even knowing who ones
father is, can be a very frightening experience for children. While it is not necessarily a single frightening experience, such as being frightened of something at one particular time in
ones life, it can still be a long lived frightening experience. For example, not knowing ones father is not the same as being traumatized by a circus clown and being
forever afraid of clowns. It is not an experience that happens in one moment, although it may be recognized in one moment, and it is an experience that lives for
a long time in a childs mind. In looking at such a possibility much of the rest of the paper will speak in first person, narrating such a frightening experience.
I remember as a young child not really being aware of the fact that I did not have a father. I thought everything was normal, or normal for a
child, until one day when another child teased me that I had no father. I suddenly realized that everyone I knew had a father, even if that father did not
live with them. I felt very alone and frightened. I asked my mother about it and she would tell me nothing. That frightened me even more and I seemed to
always think that my father was something to be fearful of. My imagination continued to plague me and I always seemed to come up with stories that made me fear
