number of competitors. In this paper we will compare two main competitors, both in the for profit healthcare market; Tenet (stock market symbol THC) and HCA (with the stock symbol
HCA), looking at aspects such as liquidity, asset management, sales and profitability, debt management and market value. To compare companies we first need to look at a little bit
of background to place the results in a fuller context. HCE Inc is a large healthcare provider. In December 2002 they has a total of 179 hospitals, of these 166
were general hospitals, and 6 psychiatric hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital and also six joint ventures. There were also the operation of 78 surgeries, the operations are wide ranging and located
in 22 states as well as operation in Switzerland and England (HCA, 2003). The services provided are aimed art all needs from birth though to death with general and acute
facilities as well as specialised facilities such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and other specialisations, providing services though in and out patients models (HCA, 2003). Tenet healthcare Corp is also
a for profit company, at the same time, December 2002 the company had directly and through the subsidiary companies a total of 114 general hospital located over 16 states (Tenet,
