today have heated discussions on Welfare as it is known in the United States. And while there are complaints, many do not think of the subject in historical context. In
a fictitious discussion between Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim and three Parisians, the subject of social welfare is discussed in terms of causation in nineteenth century France.
In a cafe in Paris, in the 1879, a group of people are sitting and conversing. There are some people who are of no consequence. They
are townspeople and are not well known, but in the midst of the conversation are the infamous Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim who have decided to strike up a conversation.
Emile is just twenty years old, but Karl is 61. Yet, Emile appears sharp, despite Karls age and superior knowledge. The conversation begins when Marie arrives at the table
and seats herself with her guest, Ian and not far behind them is an older friend of theirs named Luisa. What is evident is that these three people are of
obvious different backgrounds and they just meet for a few drinks. "Thanks for meeting us, Luisa," says Marie as she smiles and pats her hand. It has been a long
