my family. As you well know, the land I toil is owned by another; while I work from sun up to sun down, my efforts do not produce the
amount of food needed to sustain my familys existence nor pay the fee for using the land, an amount that I can hardly gather even in the best of months.
I do realize it is not easy on either of us to be a part of the peasant population, being as you attempt to live amidst "tyrannies and constitutional
city-states in Ionia" (Auden, 1977, p. 9) and I under the "feudal oligarch in Boeotia" (p. 9). But I fear my situation may cause considerable damage to any future
my family may have in our ongoing quest to survive this lowly life. I blame this feudal existence for being forced to produce fare for the privileged landowner at
the complete expense of familys ability to even eat a single meal in a days time. This powerful landowner has no heart when he looks upon my meager production
and threatens to remove me from the land so that I may have no ability at all to support my family. If it is this hard to feed them
when I have the land with which to do so, what will be my outcome when I have nothing to till? The powerful few have tied the hands of
the majority by constricting us within a feudal society (Hilton, 1976); this is a notion I simply cannot understand given that there are so many more of us than there
