iPods and iPhones that are being carted around by just about everyone. We download music off iTunes, without a second thought. And most of us who watch TV are familiar
with the "Mac-PC" advertisements, which have the hipper, younger "Mac" squaring off against the older, stodgier "PC." Even if one doesnt use a Macintosh, the image is hard to beat
- that Macintosh is a cool version for a desktop PC (or notebook PC) and needs to be examined, despite the somewhat higher price tag.
Despite Apples brand name and its ability to leverage that name throughout a variety of product inceptions, life has not always been rosy for the technology company.
There was a time, less than 15 years ago, when it seemed as though Apple might go the way of Wang Labs or even the IBM PC. Because of its
original business strategy - which was to focus on the cool aspects of gadgetry and thereby appeal to a specific, niched market, the company almost ended up shutting its doors.
It was only when founder Steve Jobs returned to the leadership of the company (with a revised mindset, we might add), that the company moved into new and innovative areas.
These days, its Macintosh computers still appeal to loyalists - more people are buying PCs than Macs, basically because of the price.
