problem plays. They are dramatic plays wherein a problem lies. The play will solve the problem in one way or another. While both plays are clearly incredibly different they hold
many similarities. While Ibsens is a play of a white feminist nature written around the turn of the 19th century and Hansberrys is a black story written in the midst
of the 20th century they are still plays with many similarities. The following paper compares the two plays in relationship to different elements. A Dolls House and A
Raisin in the Sun The first element to be discussed is that of setting. Both plays revolve around family and as such they heavily rely on the setting of the
home. In Ibsens play the home is the domain of Nora, the main character. It is where she lives, and also where she is confined. It is her place, as
a womans place is in the home, so to speak of an old social belief. In the case of Hansberrys play the home is proudly the domain of the mother
of the house, but also a very powerful element in relationship to Walter, the main character, for he does not quite understand the importance of a home, or a house
in this case. The setting of the plays could also be associated with the setting that relates to money. In both plays one of the most important themes involves
money and this is part of the setting. With Nora she secretly goes behind her husbands back to help him remain in possession of economic stability. For Walter it is
all about money and finding a future with that money. Money is a very powerful entity, almost a character, and clearly part of the setting, the very foundation of the
