The current high level of redistribution has been released with the development of the welfare state. However redistribution does nit have to take place in this way or with the same aims. Visions of utopia are usually those where there is an idealised state no one is hungry or cold, all peoples have a roof over their head and are happy. However, this is not a natural state of any society. To only state which came near this idealism was that of communalism with the idea that everyone was treated as equal. This may be seen a one way of redistributing wealth. This model took over form a model that was seen as unfair, with most of the wealth held by only a few. The ideas of Marx may be seen as one of the first models for wide scale redistribution of income, looking at tacking the income problem at the source and ensuring that the income of the nation is distributed fairly. Marxist views or of idealism, and are very humanitarian. In Marxism all individuals should be equal, with no power being welded over others by any single individual or group. In Marxism there is no room for power, the state should be governed by the people for the people. Although an idealistic view if was a reflection of the political turmoil of the age in which Karl Marx lived. The possession of power would immediately transform a proletariat to a bourgeoisie, and it is this transfer of power from the upper to the middle class which Marx see as one of the most influential revolutions in history and has behaved in a selfish manner.
