seen from many perspectives. It is an intriguing story about a man who is teaching his students, and going off topic by discussing his father and his life, bearing in
mind that his father has just recently died. The following paper examines the story. A Discussion of An Honest Exit by Mengestu In this story the narrator, the
son, is telling his class, or his Academy, the story of his father to some extent. He admits to the reader that there is a great deal about his father,
and his fathers adventures, that he does not know and so he is making up a lot of the story, filling in the blanks as he sees fit. This indicates,
in a very strong yet subtle way, that the man misses his father and wishes he knew more about his father. He is mourning by telling his students about his
father, even if much of what he is saying is untrue. By telling the story one could well argue that he is making peace with his father, missing his father,
and gaining some sort of solace in the passing of his father. While there is the story of his father in this short tale, it is not what this
reader/writer felt to be intriguing and important. The student requesting this essay may feel differently but the story of his father is primarily about struggles and the reader already knows
that the father is dead and so knows the end of the story. What seems important is the impact this story has on the students. Even the Dean is happy
