Introduction In recent years people have become more and more concerned with violence in schools. While there has always been problems as children grow and they voice their opinions
or act out aggressively, and while there has always been acts of violence in society, the numerous shootings that have been taking place in schools in the past decade or
two have really caused many to examine and research the problem. The following paper discusses five different articles that deal with this topic. A Discussion of 5 Articles
on School Violence In Serious Violent Crime Rate in U.S. Schools by Youth Violence (2010) the author notes how school violence has decreased in the past decade or more. For
example, "The annual rate of serious violent crime in 2007 (40 per 1,000 students)was less than half of the rate in 1994" (Youth Violence, 2010). It is also noted that
this trend, towards less violence, is nationwide. The article also examines other violent conditions such as bullying which often goes overlooked. In an article from April of 2010, from CBS
News titled Schools Ignoring Student Violence Warning Signs? the author discusses the attitude towards violence in higher education in light of the death of Yeardley Love. It is noted that,
