do it all the time. This paper is a descriptive essay of personal surroundings, focusing on the writing technique itself. Essay The student will need to insert their own focusing
lines and take the paper in the direction it needs to go to work for them. They also need to know what similes and metaphors are, so well begin with
definitions. A simile is a verbal comparison between two items "from different classes" that are "compared by a connective such as like, as, than, or by a verb such as
appears or seems" (Barnett 124). One of the most famous lines in Shakespeares King Lear is a simile: "How sharper than a serpents tooth it is / To have a
thankless child" (Barnett 124). A metaphor also compares things but "without a connective: She is the rose, the glory of the day" (Barnett 124). Since we are going to
describe surroundings, the most logical organizing plan for key details centers on the five senses: what does the place look like, smell like, feel like, taste like, sound like? With
