(Mercer county public defender A. Martinez). Presented to the judge, Samuel Sachs, the agreement concerned a young man who was charged with a third offense of driving while intoxicated,
reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. The charge of reckless driving was dropped in exchange for a guilty plea to leaving the
scene of the accident (fined several hundred dollars, community service and licence suspension). Driving while intoxicated was downgraded to driving under the influence due to what the prosecution stipulated
to be "reasonable doubt" concerning a 0.1 breathalyzer reading. The judge accepted the pleabargain and the defendants two guilty pleas: Total fines were well over a thousand dollars and
some jail time was credited for time served when arrested. The balance of jail time was to be served by having the defendant sit in court once a week
for a number of consecutive weeks over a period of approximately six months. Apparently, this was a part of the original plea agreement. The defense attorney used the
defendants dedication, integrity, career and family as bait to convince the judge that traditional jail time was not warranted. The defendant lost his licence for a total of ten
