The problem is, in their haste to implement the latest buzzwords, many companies end up failing with their efforts, simply because they havent taken the strategies and goals of their organization into account. Problem Solving. Problem solving has been a huge buzzword in business circles for years. If you solve problems, the theory goes, the organization will run smoothly and without a hitch. Everyone will get along. But organizations arent nirvana. Theyre entities that contain humans. And humans can be notoriously difficult when it comes to solving problems, especially if those problems are somehow impacting them in a negative way. A culture for problem-solving needs to accept, at the outset, that problems and conflicts will occur. But rather than trying to prevent problems, and then "solve" them if they do come along, employees need to understand contingencies. They need to understand the steps to those contingencies and then take responsibility for taking those steps. Getting together in a group to try to solve a problem may not be the best way to go, but the time to discuss this as a group is after the problem has been dealt with. This is a good time to discuss lessons learned and how things might go differently next time. Self Management.
