Wars. It is fictional and details the life and involvement of one main character, Percy Munn, who finds himself in many different situations concerning his involvement in the tobacco industry
in history. The following paper analyzes the work and the character of Percy Munn. The paper examines how Warrens novel offers up a fictional look at a time in
history that is often overlooked or disregarded through the character of Munn. A Critique of Night Rider by Robert Penn Warren As mentioned, this story is about Percy
Munn. Percy, in the beginning of the novel, arrives at a town where he will soon engage in growing tobacco. He is a seemingly simple man but he soon finds
himself in the midst of problems associated with tobacco growing and he, along with a senator, become involved in a group that is aimed at keeping some sort of control
over tobacco growing, keeping some power for themselves in the face of big tobacco companies. Their group is called the Association of Growers of Dark Fired Tobacco and it has
righteous intentions to help the simple farmer. But, this group quickly becomes more and more subversive so that the night riders head out and burn the tobacco crops of certain
individuals and even commit murders. They become the Free Farmers Brotherhood for Protection and Control. At the same time Munn, who is married, slowly seems to dismiss his wife who
all but disappears out of the story, and becomes romantically involved with another woman, Sukie. In the end Munn is unable to really find the right path, or a path
of righteousness for himself, and he kills himself. The story is not incredibly complex and one could well argue that the primary theme is one that follows Munn, illustrating that
