is to invest in early childhood education with his Zero to Five plan ("Barack Obama and Joe Biden: the Change We Need: Education," 2008). That plan involves an effort to
create preschool on a nationwide basis ("Barack Obama and Joe Biden: the Change We Need: Education," 2008). The third thing that the Obama presidency will focus on is affordable education
at the college level ("Barack Obama and Joe Biden: the Change We Need: Education," 2008). Part of this program would see a four thousand dollar tax credit in exchange for
community service, something that is expected to offset the cost of tuition a great deal ("Barack Obama and Joe Biden: the Change We Need: Education," 2008). The education plan is
marginal at best. The fact that No Child Left Behind is embraced at all is a problem. By allowing NCLB to go forward, the government is supporting a failing program.
NCLB seems good on paper. The teachers would be considered accountable so social promotion would end. Obama criticizes NCLB but claims that the project has not received enough funding (Abramson,
2008). This is the typical criticism waged in respect to the program. The system tests the schools but does not help them get up to par. What is the alternative?
McCains plan would provide vouchers for students to attend private institutions (Abramson, 2008). Obama is opposed to any type of voucher program (Abramson, 2008). The voucher idea has been a
