2001. For Uncle Sams impressionable children, who were still imbued with a sense of idealism and a secure feeling that terrorism was an unfortunate occurrence in other countries, the
world became a much smaller and considerably more terrifying place. It is recommended that one who is writing about this topic incorporate as much personal information as possible in
an essay on this subject so as to convey the extent of the personal transformation that has taken place within the hearts and minds of Americas youth. For example,
in this instance, when the walls of the World Trade Center came crumbling down, so, too, in a sense did my world. I was a ninth-grade student who was
watching television in disbelief as the death and carnage seemed never-ending. No member of my family was in the WTC or the Pentagon at the time of the attacks.
But I felt we were still in the line of fire nevertheless because my father has served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years. I knew that
sooner or later he would be called into action, and I was write. In March of 2002, he and his fellow marines were sent to halt the fighting in
Afghanistan in a mission entitled Operation Anaconda (Landis, 2002). In this war-torn country, terrorism has become a way of life, and after the events of 9/11, for the first time
their military protectors could truly understand what they were experiencing. As Marine Captain Joshua "Spud" Luck explained, "The personal side of it was seeing what happened on September 11,
and having an impact on preventing anything like that from happening in the future. I am proud to be a part of this" (Landis, 2002, p. 20). Danger
