the arrival of a train to Cape Town. They carry bags and newspapers, and huddle together in groups, talking to one another. Stage ornamentation includes two small benches, a train schedule posted on one wall, and a prominent sign reading "Whites Only" near the entrance to the train platform. As the scene opens, we see Sam, in his new occupation as a custodian at the train station, sweeping up a pile of dust and debris. A station attendant enters the scene from stage right. ATTENDANT: Ladies and gentlemen, please take note that the train to Cape Town will be arriving in fifteen minutes! Please make sure that all of your luggage and arrangements are in order, as the train will depart immediately after loading is complete. Thank you! He exits. Sam continues sweeping. A few moments later, Hally enters from the right, struggling to carry two over-packed suitcases. He drags them to one of the benches, then sits down and wipes his brow. After settling in, he looks around and notices Sam. HALLY: Sam? Is that you? Sam looks up at the sound of his name. SAM: Hally? Well Ill be, boy. It sure has been some time. HALLY: About three years. Hally gets up and walks over to where Sam is sweeping. He speaks to him in a lower voice. HALLY: You know, I always wondered what happened to you after you left the restaurant. We had that fight and all, and when you just disappeared, I figured Id never see you again. SAM: Well, here I am, Hally. Its nice to see you too.
