much to the new world order. While these Republican presidents shared many fans, Nixon went out in shame while Reagan ended is presidency in glory. What policies did each
of these well known presidents implement and were they effective? Who were Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and how did they change America? Ronald Reagan was born in 1911; he
attended Eureka College where he majored in sociology and economics ("Biography of Ronald," 2004). He would go on to become a sports announcer and then an actor where he made
more than fifty films; he would become president of the Screen Actors Guild before becoming president of the United States (2004). Ronald Reagan became governor in 1966, something that began
a long career in politics. Gwertzman (2004) claims that Reagan created a situation where conservatism had become respectable again. The start of the Reagan presidency started this new trend. It
was the 1980 election that marked the first time since the year 1932 that an elected incumbent President lost the bid for his second term in office (Gwertzman, 2004). Walter
Russell Mead, a respected historian, claims that the election was "a turning point in American history" (2004, p.24). Prior to that time, according to Mead, the nation would gradually become
more liberal but since 1980, it appears that the nation is becoming more conservative (2004). It does seem to be true that Reagan set the pace, changed the times and
