SA 149pop.rtf Today, soda is a fact of life and people drink it with their meals as well as to perhaps have a can or two during the
day. Because soft drinks have become so popular car manufacturers have created cup holders in all of their vehicles. Indeed, soft drinks have become something consumed by most everyone and
while it is replete with sugar, diet varieties have no calories or carbohydrates. In 1956, an ad campaign for carbonated beverages suggested that consumers enjoy carbonation and soft drinks
had even been marketed as a digestive aid that assisted the body in absorbing nutrients ("An Advertising" PG). It also said that it would help one to maintain a balanced
diet and cure hangovers (PG). Although no nutrition expert worth his salt today would recommend soda, people do use ginger ale on occasion to cure a bout with nausea and
doctors do suggest that one allow a soft drink to go flat to get liquids during a stomach flu. Still, soda has little nutritional value, but it is something that
people consume anyway. Many people have favorite brands, or at least brand preferences. Of the many varieties each has a distinct taste, some of which are familiar in other products.
For example, there is cherry, orange and grape sodas, but the most popular are the ones with a unique taste. A few examples of those are Dr. Pepper, Coke and
Mountain Dew. While each have unique ingredients, it is carbon dioxide which is an odorless and colorless gas, that is the characterizing ingredient in carbonated beverage ("NSDA" PG). When one
