2 long poems to his name. It has been theorized often that the writer finds a bit of himself in each character. So, it might be that in the brooding
self pitying Othello, who was also prone to bursts of anger, Shakespeare did some inner searching on what it meant to be truly overcome by ones emotions, and element he
repeated in Romeo and Juliet. In fact, these two plays bear a striking resemblance to one another in many ways. Shakespeare, though his personal life is still much of a
mystery, has a writing life that speaks for itself. Scholars accredit him with having the largest vocabulary of any writer, including Milton. He is also attributed with having coined more
catch phrases such as into thin air, crocodile tears, and cold-blooded(Rubenstein 2000). Some argue that there was a vast difference between Shakespeare the person and Shakespeare, the writer. He is
a marvelos contrast in dark and light, which is aptly used in a good deal of his plays. Both in Romeo and Juliet and in Othello, there is the contrast
of dark and light, apparent both in characters and in emotions. There is the element of forbidden love, as both Othello and Romeo are not held in high esteem by
their fathers-in-law. Neither story ends well, for both Othello and Romeo give way to impulsiveness and high emotion, and so end up committing grievous acts against themselves or their beloved.
