pertains to freedom. The protagonist Winston Smith writes in a journal and there are times when his thoughts center on freedom. For example, early on he writes the following: "Freedom
is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows" (Orwell, 2003, p. 163). Here, Smith is concerned about the lack of
freedom, but this is not an unusual compliant. In fact, it has been with the society for some time. Orwell (2003) seemingly warns of a future that is replete with
control. People seem to be able to have less freedom because Big Brother is watching. Yet, some theorists warn of too much freedom. Social contract theorists for example see government
as quite relevant in the scheme of things. Aristotle is also a theorist who equates Utopia with a state where the aristocrats are in charge. For Aristotle (1996) utopia is
equated to having a constitution, but of course, it has to be the right constitution. Aristotle (1996) does provide insights into his ideas about utopia through his works. He creates
a version of a constitution here that sees the ruling class do what it does best, which is to lead. The people do not have a voice, but it is
also true that there are provisions for the people to participate in government. For Aristotle (1996), the idea of a perfect world centers on the assumption that people are
not able to take care of themselves, so government has to intervene. Orwells (2003) sentiment appears to be quite different, at least at first glance. Orwell sees the world
as too restrictive and in this future that he creates in what he perceives things would be like in 1984, there is a sense that the world is becoming too
