the student, enlightenment for the human being is simply the art of being human in the fullest sense. Kant (1784) writes in his essay "What is Enlightenment" that the most
important point of enlightenment is the "escape of men from their self-incurred tutelage." This is an idea that makes sense. After all, being fully human and enjoying the fruits
of human nature can lead to fulfillment and it is important for people to be able to get beyond the obstacles they put in their own way. Nietzsche, on the
other hand, has a different view. A student writing on this subject submits in conjunction with this assignment the fact that Nietzsche " provides his readers with three categories of
history, namely monumental, antiquarian, and critical and shows how each can be viewed in both a positive and negative way for life." In a free and open society, Kant would
view a human being as being fully actualized. The fact that the question includes the specific requirement of being in a free society is relevant. In societies where people do
not have choice, a human being would perhaps not become enlightened, at least not on the open. Is Nietzsches ideas about a noble human comparable with Kants ideas? For Nietzsche,
the noble human being strives to be alone, to stand up for himself, to take on responsibilities and so forth ("Nietzsches Moral and Political Philosophy," 2004). Nietzsche (1885) suggests that
the noble type of man is someone who exhibits a sense of pride. For Nietzsche, there is an intrinsic morality or a nature that the human being must attach himself
