film have been devoted to depicting the future. Many of these productions provide particularly interesting insight into how our government might evolve in terms of its relationship to its
citizenry. Two of the more interesting of the works that have emerged are George Orwells "1984" and Alan Moores "V for Vendetta". As might be expected both books
had movies made from them but the latter, from a cinamagraphic perspective at least, is arguably the most moving. A comparison between the novel "1984" and the movie "V
for Vendetta" actually reveals many similarities in regard to the thoughts that obviously inspired the creators of these works despite the significant time span that separated the artists themselves.
Written in the aftermath of World War II George Orwells novel "1989" was a futuristic view of the world as Orwell envisioned
it unfolding. It revealed a high-tech world where the government oversaw every aspect of an individuals life. The movie "V for Vendetta" in comparison was produced in 2005.
It is futuristic as well but in reality it is set in the world as it pretty much already exists today. People, in theory at least, travel about
at their leisure and enjoy what seems to be certain freedoms. On closer inspection, however, that is really not the case.
"1984", in comparison, depicts a world where the citizens have essentially become mindless automatons. They go to work in government controlled environments and even when they go home
