is geared for more complicated projects. Each of the protocols are associated with "pros" and "cons." It is prudent to address the positive and negative aspects of each of these
protocol before making a decision in respect to which one to choose. Programmers have choices when it comes to implementing these models. SNMP and CMIP each have their place in
the computer world and it pays to examine their drawbacks as well as their advantages. II. Pros and Cons of SNMP SNMP or Simple Network Management Protocol
Protocol allows management applications retrieve data from the network devices in addition to allowing return commands to get the device to work properly (Axner, 1993). SNMP was created to manage
the Internet (Axner, 1993). SNMP is a good protocol. However, SNMP is not able to both relay information and perform tasks (Javvin Technologies, 2005). SNMP does however allow "network
administrators to manage network performance, find and solve network problems and plan for network growth" (Javvin Technologies, 2005, p.42). It also has a simple design which is perceived as a
benefit (Zurawski, 2005). The simple design makes it easy to implement into a small network and it is also very easy to use (Zurawski, 2005). A serious disadvantage of SNMP
however is that it has some major security leaks (Zurawski, 2005). Hackers can actually shut down terminals with access to it (Zurawski, 2005). III. Pros and Cons of CMIP
