Whatever the case, to truly understand a business, one must examine many multifaceted dimensions of the business and its operations, both internally and externally. This is the case even for the most straightforward business that manufactures the kind of simple product that people across the world use on a daily basis. To illustrate this point, one might look at Procter & Gamble, and their napkin-producing operations in particular. This paragraph helps the student begin to provide an overview of the selected company. The Procter and Gamble Company is one of many important manufacturers in the category of napkin production. Their most significant competitor, not just in napkins but also in other household goods and similar products, is Johnson and Johnson, another major multinational corporation. Besides Johnson and Johnson, Procter and Gamble must compete with Kimberly-Clark in providing napkins. These three make up the majority of the napkin market in the United States and in some overseas counties. The companys annual report indicates that its performance is on the upswing: net sales reached 78.9 billion dollars in 2010, up from 76.7 billion in 2009, and a significant increase from 2006s figure of 64.4 billion (Procter & Gamble, 2010). The company also boasted an operating cash flow of 16.1 billion, up from 14.9 billion the year before (Procter & Gamble, 2010). In terms of diluted net earnings, however, the company posted $4.11 per common share in 2010, which was a decrease from the previous years performance of $4.26 per share (Procter & Gamble, 2010). Despite the napkin being a simple product, Procter and Gamble is a major multinational organization.
