the contemporary environment. The way in which it is presented may take one or a combination of many forms. In looking at films such as "A Chinese Ghost Story", directed
by Ching Siu-Tung, based on a novel by Songling Pu and the screen play written by Kai-Chi Yun, it may be argued that it is a post modern artefact in
its content and presentation in all aspects of its creation. The term post modern is a broad term that may be applied to a range of contexts including architecture,
music, writing and the movie world. In these different context there is a pluralism in terms of the relaxed and laid back style, which is a reaction against the modern
styles (Doker 5). It is as a response, and even in rebellion, but certainly in reaction to many of the modern ideas, that we seen the post modernist movement emerge,
a reflection back on former, more traditional ideas. A Chinese Ghost Story may be seen as encompassing these ideals. For many contexts
there is a singular paradigm, but for film there is the requirement for a paradigm of plurality as many different art forms and contexts will merge in the production of
the film. In examining the film as a post-modern artefact it may be argued that as a philosophy post modernism it has parallels with the enlightenment and its
thinkers and the libertarianism, with preoccupation such as self realisation. The former convections are re-examined and the modernist approach that has immediately preceded it is rejected. In examining these ideas
