this case a young woman is employed in Japan under special conditions where she is essentially learning of a culture, making money, and bettering her skills in the Japanese language.
However, she comes up on some very common problems in employment, the main one being that of an employee essentially disliking their supervisor. Another problem, which has created the case
being discussed, occurs when she is ill for two days, only to come back to work and find that she is essentially forced to sign a paper saying her two
days of sick leave were actually to be considered as paid leave, indicating a vacation. She, and other co-workers, two of whom were sick as well, in the same program,
are very disgruntled. In the following paper we examine what Kelly, the primary figure, and the other ALTs (employees under the program) should do. We also discuss how the conflict
occurred and what could have been done to prevent the final outcome. What Should Kelly and the Other ALTs Do? The most obvious action that Kelly and the
other ALTs could do is nothing at all. As one of Kellys co-workers stated, calling upon CLAIR would make a very big deal out of the problem, and perhaps make
the situation more tense and more controversial. If they do nothing they have essentially learned a lesson, being that Japan, according to their supervisor, does not quickly fall upon sick
leave, but would rather, for the integrity of the company and out of respect for the employers, take sick leave as paid leave. In reality, considering they are in a
different country, they should perhaps respect the culture and not make such a big conflict out of the simple two days lost. However, also as seen in the text,
