broker, he or she will always have a job. That is, one is considered to be self employed regardless. Even a real estate agent is self employed and effectively owns
his own business. Such individuals are not paid a salary with benefits. Rather, they earn their money by selling or listing homes. If they do not perform well, they do
not earn much money. Still, while the agency can terminate an agent for example, or the agent may leave for another brokers office, getting a job in real estate is
not the same as becoming an employee of a firm. Effectively, as long as one has a license and a desire to sell, they will always have a job.
When someone decides to get a real estate license and begins selling for a living, he or she will be considered an independent contractor and the effort put into the
job will often be what is derived from the process. In other words, the more effort they put in, the more money they will make. This advice is actually only
partially true. Market conditions can challenge even the most skilled sales associates. Another factor is that putting in hours does not constitute sales savvy. Cold calling is only successful if
the sales person is persuasive. Someone who hates the routine, does not like people, or does not have the personality for this type of work may not do well. Success
in this business is equated with work hours to an extent, but the desire to sell real estate, the sales mentality, and learned skills will go a long way to
