person that x-rays cannot penetrate, and they also explain the procedures to the patients (BLS). To ensure that radiation exposure is kept to an absolute minimum, radiographers also "surround the
exposed area with radiation protection devices, such as lead shields" and/or "limit the size of the x-ray beam" ("Radiologic...Facts"). The following examination of this profession provides a basic overview of
this profession, designed to inform people who feel that they may be interested in pursing a career in this field. Features that make this line of work appealing: In
a recent survey conducted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the top three reasons that were listed for pursuing this career path were: * They wanted an interesting
career; * They wanted a profession that helps people and * They wanted a profession with plenty of jobs ("Radiologic Technologist"). As the last item on this list indicates,
this is a growing field with many opportunities for employment. Demand for radiographers is strong and is growing throughout the country (ASRT). While most radiographers work in hospitals and clinics,
doctors offices and diagnostic imaging centers also employ radiographers (Career Overview). Types of radiographers: The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT)indicates that there are four professional practice areas for
radiographers. There are those radiographers who operate diagnostic imaging equipment, which produces "images of the tissue, organs, bones and vessels of the body," which can then be used for diagnostic
