all kinds of different leadership theories. These days, we have a collection of different theories and types that can be tried on, examined, and determined as to their effectiveness.
But what is a leader? These days, its not defined as the guy at the top of the organizational chart. Rather, leadership in an
organization is defined as an individual who sets a direction, and then influences people to follow that direction (McNamara). Thats the simple definition. What is somewhat more complex is how
the leader encourages the followers. We already mentioned that there were a great number of leadership theories that have sprung out of
the 20th century. In this paper, well discuss examples of two (participative and autocratic) and move into more discussions about other types of leadership theories. Then well determine if leaders
are born - or if they can be made. Leader #1 - the Participative Leader In this particular company, we see a
manager who attempts to involves employees in the decision-making process. But it may not be just employees he attempts to involve - sometimes this manager wants the input of everyone
from superiors, to the community, to the suppliers. This particular leaders, a participative leader, wants to know everyones opinion before he makes a decision.
Participative leadership, as it sounds, believes that people tend to be more committed to particular actions and events when they have been involved in relevant decision-making (Participative Leadership). Furthermore,
