a brilliant intellect but suffered enormously from mental illness. The following paper summarizes the movie and then discusses what made this film a good film. A Beautiful Mind
In the beginning of this film we see the character of John Nash as a new student at Princeton University. We see him
begin to get settled in this life as a student and we begin to see the power and the intense energy of his intellect. It is also important to note
that at this time we are introduced to characters that we, and Nash, will later discover are not real people at all. They are figments of his imagination, symptoms of
his schizophrenia. After he graduates he supposedly seems to work for the United States Department of Defense in some manner wherein he
is supposed to crack codes. We also note that he is on a mission, with the help of a man in black, to protect the United States from the Soviet
Union. He slowly becomes more and more obviously delusional. However Nash does not see this or know this. One of the people
who works with Nash sees him doing essentially crazy things and putting documents in drop boxes. He reports him to the superiors and they put Nash into a mental institution.
He believes that this is part of the Soviety conspiracy to trick him. They put him on drugs and eventually, through his wifes help, realizes that he was not seeing
reality. He sees that he was making these people up and that many people in his life were the result of his schizophrenia.
