in the United States, fully two thirds of the women do not support the national womens organizations. Why? And the groundswell of discontent continues to grow. As a new
century begins people are beginning to reassess and question certain long-held beliefs. One of those seems to be the feminist movement. While most women do not negate the work that
their foremothers did in this respect, most women feel that the womens movement has continued to bark up the wrong tree, going too far on many issues so as to
make the whole gender look foolish. In addition, for one reason or another, many lesbians and men haters have joined the womens movements over the last few decades making
the term feminist equivalent to the term homosexual or manhating to many women. Not wanting to be identified in this way, many women jumped the womens organization boat. The negative
image which has abounded over the last few decades did not help the movement, either. Many women began to question the basic foundational beliefs of the feminist movement, which
was the fact that men and women were completely different from one another(Davison 1988). What science has now discovered and proven is that while there are significant differences, there are
more similarities. The terms masculinity and femininity are no longer considered genders as much as a state of mind and a social construct of sorts. In addition, the claim
by feminists that men have forced women, by societal pressure, to shave off all of their body hair, pierce body parts, and wear certain clothing in order to pander to
their delight, has been found to be insulting to the women who stop to consider what such a statement implies(Howard, Tibballs, 2003). Many women simply practice these rituals and habits
