article "Flying through the standards with bats," offers a detailed lesson plan, which demonstrates how national science standards can be addressed within a context that encourages creative thinking paradigms. Krantz
and Barrow point out that bats are fascinate children, as well as adults, at least partially because the reality of bats has been obscured by myth. The Krantz and Barrow
lesson plan outlines how the students can explore this topic using the content area learning techniques, such as the K-W-L inquiry method. The K represents what the students already know,
the W represents what they want to know and the L represents what they have learned (Krantz and Barrow 29). A chart representing this knowledge can be updated throughout lessons
that deal with this topic. As this topic is covered, the students will begin to modify their preconceptions about bats to fit the reality and the new information to which
