Votova holds a Masters degree and Gallagher is also a PhD and an RN. No further information is offered in this study article relative to the researchers qualifications. Summary of themes and scope of each study Hammer and Craig (2008): This qualitative study utilized interviews, which were conducted face-to-face with each of the nine nurse participants who had recently returned to nursing after taking a refresher course. The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors motivating the nurses to return to active employment as this can play a significant role in addressing the current nursing shortage. In addition to exploring the motivation of the participants in taking a refresher course, the research questions for the study also explored their experiences in doing so, such as the factors that made supported and helped them, as well as perceived barriers to their goals. The participants were also asked about their experiences following the refresher course during the first six months of employment as a refreshed nurse.
