parts of town that the entire city does not consist of middle and upper-class families. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that my town displays social stratification that is suggestive
of inequality in regards to issues of wealth and income and poverty. As to why this stratification exists, Raleigh is undoubtedly much like the rest of the country
and follows the same general trends. Everywhere in the US, the gap between the rich and the poor is growing. An Economist article points out that in 1980, the average
CEO of a corporation was paid, on average, around 40 times as much as the average worker; today the average CEO is paid 400 times the average worker salary (Would
you like... 29US). While is it undoubtedly simplistic to say that this is why the gap between the rich and poor is growing, it is certainly symptomatic of the root
causes. Unlike previous eras, where there was concern that the average worker in the country could have a decent lifestyle, the nature as a whole has evolved increasingly toward a
culture founded on avarice. Politically, it seems to accepted as socially correct in many circles to argue that the poor deserve their fate. The Republic hardline is that if someone
is poor, it is because they do not want to work. Follow any of the various Democratic candidates running for president and it will not be long before you hear
