into the problems that were emerging in the early Church including: litigation, marriage, social relations with pagans, party strife, the tendency of the more emotional members of the Church to
take over in worship, the agape. The reader also learns of the strife between Paul and the Corinthians. Paul expresses a range of emotions in these two letters but
there is a dramatic difference in Pauls tone between 2 Corinthians 1 - 9 and 2 Corinthians 10 - 13. Some experts believe that some editor combined two different letters,
believing that Chapters 10 - 13 are actually a fragment of a letter Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 2:3-4, the one he wrote with many tears (Smith, 1996; Reid, 1995):
"I wrote as I did so that when I came I should not be distressed by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you,
that you would all share my joy. For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let
you know the depth of my love for you." Other scholars believe 2 Corinthians is actually a fourth letter that Paul wrote to them (Stedman html). Stedman outlined the letters
Paul is believed to have written to the Corinthians: * The first letter warned them of following a worldly lifestyle. They responded with questions. * _ Paul then
answered their questions in the letter now referred to as 1 Corinthians. * He then made another quick trip to Corinth which he refers to as a "painful visit"
