2006). The state, as all states, has two senators, a Republican Mel Martinez and a Democrat, Bill Nelson. Nelson is the senior senator. Since weve considered him earlier, this paper
will look at Martinez. We will first consider the history and politics of district 14 and its Representative, Connie Mack. Then well tackle the political history of Florida and look
at the record of Mel Martinez, its junior senator. The 14th Congressional District Representative Connie Mack IV is the son of Connie Mack III, a former U.S. Senator from Florida.
He was first elected to Congress in 2004 and reelected in 2006 (Representative Connie Mack IV, 2006). Mack was educated at the University of Florida where he was graduated with
a Bachelor of Science in 1993; he was an executive with LTP Management Incorporated, from 1994-2000; his profile still shows him as a self-employed marketing consultant, though this hardly seems
plausible (Representative Connie Mack IV, 2006). Mack has taken some "heat" for his private life; he is a Catholic who campaigned hard on traditional family values, and who used photos
of himself with his wife and children in his latest campaign; yet he is now divorced and is allegedly linked romantically with Congresswoman Mary Bono, the widow of California Congressman
Sonny Bono (Argetsinger and Roberts, 2006). (For those too young to remember, Sonny Bono was one half of the pop music duo, Sonny and Cher. Yes, that Cher). Mack
