prominent, names in the Impressionist movement. The following paper examines 10 of his paintings as they illustrate his developing and evolving style. 10 Paintings by Claude Monet One
of Monets earlier paintings is Hunting Trophy painted in 1862 (can be viewed at http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/collections/works-in-focus/painting). This is a painting that, in comparison to his latter works, is incredibly detailed and
different from the style that would emerge with Monet. It was very much a still life whose tone is realistic as it portrays a gun, several species of dead birds,
and a dog within the framework. It is clearly a study of depth and color in relationship to the figures. The next painting to be examines is The Cart
which was painted in 1865 (can be viewed at http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/collections/works-in-focus/painting). This painting is a very different image than the previous and it is a painting that clearly indicates a direction
that Monet was working towards. It offers a picture that is very subtle and earthy in terms of colors, because it is primarily a painting of a snowy environment. But
in this painting one can begin to see the development or broader brush strokes although there is still a very definite context of realism that still exists. In Women
in the garden 1866 (can be viewed at http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/collections/works-in-focus/painting) the brush strokes become even more obvious and fresh looking, which was not something the critics and dealers of the time
