or how the film was budgeted. But, it can be said, when they appreciate the film and give it great acclaim, when the film has motivated or touched someone in
someway, then it can be said that, though they do not realize it, they are appreciating all those elements which laid the foundation for the film to become a reality.
In Mike Nichols movie, The Graduate, released in 1967, if one can pause and separate oneself emotionally from the film, then one can see all of these features coming together
with a brilliance that took forethought, strategy, and talent. Nicols particular style is evident, both in his narrative and in his application of his craft. When the student constructs
his own paper on The Graduate, he may very well want to point out that The Graduate was acclaimed for many things. The New York Film Critics gave their award
to The Graduate and garnered an Academy Award nomination. It won a 1968 Golden Globe Award It also was nominated for Best Picture and, clearly, many decades later, is still
a classic. In particular, what makes Nichols film so successful is his choices of camera and especially lens use throughout the movie. The Graduate was based upon a novel
by the same name and so was translated to the silver screen. When this is done it is always a touchy business. Much of the motivation and depth of character
can be lost when one cannot read the internal dialogue of each character. Given this, then, the director and producer must carefully construct the film so that these interior thoughts
and feelings are suggested or shown to the audience in others ways. Nichols opts to do this through his use of lens and different camera angles. By doing this, the
