their end. Of curse, there is a fundamental difference when dying by anothers hand, waiting to die, or dying instantly from a freak accident. One type of death that is
often difficult for family, and for the sick individual, is someone who is suffering with a disease like cancer. In the hospice, they simply wait to die as workers and
family members try to make them more comfortable as the inevitable death draws near. Some people fight death and others succumb to it. Jones (1998) asks, in the context of
war: "But is it worth it? Is it really worth it to die, to be dead, just to prove to everybody that youre not a coward? " (p.70). The point
made by Jones is that death is final. How could it be worth it to die for any reason? For those dying from cancer, or scheduled to die by lethal
injection, there is a great sense of loss. Of course, everyone dies. It is part of life. However, when it comes to the subject of the slow, impending death, there
is a sense of resolution. There is nothing more to be done. Death is coming and while there is no particular date on which the individual is supposed to pass,
the doctors are usually good at predicting whether a dying person has a few days or a few weeks. The last few days or hours of a persons life is
often known. Vital signs tell the tale. Interestingly, but not so obviously, there are similarities between this situation and the individual who sits on death row. While death is
