rather good. Yet, there is conflict. There was the Rodney King incident and the verdict heard around the world that sparked riots in Los Angeles. Also on the left coast,
the OJ Simpson verdict clearly demonstrated that a racial divide exists. And Michael Moores (2001) satirical look at life in America today clearly makes the point as he narrates the
following: "I dont know what it is, but every time I see a white guy walking toward me, I tense up....I kick myself for even being in this part of
town after dark....Now the white person is coming closer, closer--and then--whew! He walks by without harming me, and I breathe a sigh of relief" (p.56). Moores irony rings true as
many people experience some of those thoughts when a black man approaches, in part due to media racial stereotyping and profiling. In their heads, they divide the world into black
and white neighborhoods and it is the reality as well. It seems as if the society cannot embrace diversity in any meaningful way because people find it difficult to get
along. As the population grows more and more diverse each day, what can be done? In contemplating this issue, regional political and economic issues must be considered along with
positions of ethnic and religious minorities as well as issues that go to environmental, and womens interests. The reasons why so many variables must be considered is that the diverse
population does not fit into neat categories. Rather, there are many different people with different beliefs and the dividing lines are not always clear cut; the ultimate goal is always
