of plot from Shakespeares Hamlet, there are stark similarities in respect to themes. In Antigone, there is a conflict between the father and son characters, Creon and Haemon. Creon, king
of Thebes, makes a decision to forbid the burial of a man by the name of Polynices who he perceives to be undeserving. Antigone, the female protagonist, is depicted as
a heroine who sticks to her beliefs by burying both her brothers, one of whom is a traitor. This puts her at odds with Creon due to differences in thought
regarding burial customs and she is condemned to die. It is important to keep in mind that according to Greek tradition, if the brother were not buried, it would be
considered to be a neglect of a sacred duty. Each of the characters have agendas and each is really trying to do the right thing. During the play,
many confrontations take place between Creon and the others on the matter at hand. Primarily discussed is the burial as the two sisters, Antigone and Ismene are confronted. Antigone is
sentenced to death. When his son approaches and suggests that Creon be easier on Antigone, and even suggests letting her go, the king is furious at his sons interference.
The king asks if the reason he has come was to save Antigone. His foreknowledge, while may be obvious, does show some close connection between the characters as the father
is "tuned into" his sons emotions even before the conversation begins. The King recognizes that his son loves the woman who is condemned to die. He has come to plead
for her life. Yet, the king does not do what will make his son happy as he is tied to his principles. The king brings up the subject
